The College of Science Organizes a Seminar on Physiological Responses to Petroleum Hydrocarbons

The Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, organized a seminar on the physiological responses of some field plants exposed to stress from petroleum hydrocarbons.

The seminar, presented by Master's student Asmaa Ibrahim Othman, aimed to explain the sources of aromatic hydrocarbon pollution and its effects on plants.

The seminar addressed the impact of petroleum hydrocarbons on soil properties and their effect on plant morphological and physiological characteristics, as well as the extent of their response to the stress resulting from this pollution.

The seminar recommended adopting multi-faceted plant remediation strategies to achieve comprehensive treatment of soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, taking into account the chemical composition and level of pollution, and considering high pollution levels
