A master's thesis in the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, investigated the removal of organic dyes from wastewater using activated carbon prepared from plastic waste and loaded with nano-oxides.
The thesis, submitted by student Ayat Salah Mahlahel, aimed to prepare an activated carbon made from plastic waste to find environmental solutions that combine reducing solid waste, improving wastewater treatment technologies, and increasing the efficiency of removing organic pollutants and industrial dyes from wastewater.
The thesis included a practical application on real wastewater samples from the Hamdan Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The thesis concluded that the prepared materials possess stable nano-properties and high efficiency in removing organic dyes and treating wastewater. Furthermore, they can be recovered and reused with high efficiency, which enhances their potential for future application in sustainable environmental treatment technologies.
