Lecturer Mu'taz Hikmat Othman, from the Department of Ecology at the College of Science, University of Basra, participated in an awareness workshop entitled "Together to Protect the Ozone Layer," held at the Basra Environment Directorate.

The workshop, organized by the Directorate of Environmental Protection and Improvement, covered several topics, including an introduction to the ozone layer and its importance to human health, the causes of ozone layer depletion, the substances responsible for its depletion, key international agreements addressing ozone and how to preserve it, and raising awareness about using environmentally friendly alternatives to harmful gases in refrigeration and other appliances.

 The workshop recommended concerted efforts from regulatory bodies, researchers, environmental activists, and civil society organizations to protect the ozone layer and reach all segments of society in a simple and accessible way to present ideas and messages that increase awareness in the field of environmental conservation.
