A master's thesis at the Faculty of Science at the University of Basrah titled "The correlation between the biofilm formation genes and antibiotic resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates and preparing a new compound as an antibacterial" discussed the research of the student Fatima Waleed Abdul-Ameer. The thesis involved the clinical and molecular identification of the bacterial isolates, as well as proving the high inhibitory efficacy of the garlic-extracted compound "Thiochromene" against the target bacteria. The thesis aims to determine the biofilm-forming genes and their relationship with multidrug resistance. It concluded a 100% widespread prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. Furthermore, it recommended expanding future studies to include more isolates and hospitals, investigating the gene expression of the bap gene, and understanding the compound's mechanism of action for its clinical applications in infection control.
