College of Science Organizes Workshop on Sustainable Production Systems and Biodiversity

The Department of Ecology at the University of Basrah’s College of Science organized a workshop on sustainable production systems and their role in conserving biodiversity and ensuring ecosystem sustainability.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of sustainable production systems and highlight their role in balancing production and development requirements with the preservation of natural resources, biodiversity, and ecosystem sustainability. It also sought to clarify key sustainable practices that contribute to mitigating environmental degradation.

In her presentation, lecturer Hadeer Hassan Ali (Department of Ecology) emphasized that investing in biodiversity conservation is not merely an environmental choice but a fundamental guarantee for human food and economic security.

The workshop recommended adopting sustainable, eco-friendly production systems, optimizing water and soil usage, reducing the application of pesticides and fertilizers, and supporting sustainable agriculture and biological production.
